Argaw Ashine has served as a journalist for 18 years at different media organizations inside Ethiopia, including governmental, private and foreign media outlets. He was also in charge of various journalism unions in the country. He left Ethiopia on September 2011 after the Ethiopian Federal Police gave him the ultimatum of either revealing his government sources or fleeing the country.

“The 13th Ethiopian sport and cultural festival in Europe concluded in Frankfurt, Germany on July 18. As the seat of the winning team of the football final, London will host the 2016 annual event. Germany has hosted the festival for two years in a row after winning the match in both 2013 and 2014. The event was organized by the Ethiopian Sport and Cultural Federation in Europe (ESCFE).

Ethiopia freed jailed writers but friends remain behind bars

“An Ethiopian Journalist Jailed for Her Integrity” reads the title of a story about Edom Kassaye that was circulating on the Internet hours before rumors of her release and others broke on social media. The release of the writers, which stunned the defendants, their solicitors and admirers alike, was followed by yet another unexpected release of Reeyot Alemu, who walked out of prison on June 9.
